The Terre Haute Symphony League is excited to host Luminous Strings on Thursday, February 6, 2025, 7:30-9:30pm at The Red Barn in Terre Haute, IN! Experience a live string quartet performing arrangements of your favorite British Rock Bands surrounded by candlelight. Doors open at 7pm for the cash bar and light desserts. Concert begins at 8pm.

Our fabulous musicians are featured in stunning double concertos including Bach’s beautiful Concerto for Oboe and Violin, the brilliant Concerto for Flute and Harp by Mozart, and Paul Whear’s moving Elegy for MLK, Jr., for Oboe and English Horn. Barber’s familiar Adagio for Strings rounds out this 75-minute program.

This crossover eclectic show with vocalist Dan Domenech includes jazz selections by Duke Ellington and songs from the Wizard of Oz. The concert will then move on to a variety of pop hits. The artists/composers include Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Freddie Mercury, Journey, Michael Jackson, and Pharrell Williams. The THSO will welcome our Artistic Director-Designate, Dr. Roger Kalia, to the podium for Decades of Pop.

Full of passion, lyricism, and technical bravura, this concerto became Tchaikovsky’s first work to achieve widespread acclaim this side of the Atlantic. This inspirational program also features Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony, a masterwork recognized for its gorgeous melodies and triumphant conclusion. You may hear the pop of a cork as the concert opens!

On December 7, 2024, at 7:30pm, the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Bowden, will perform their annual holiday concert, The Gift of Music, at Tilson Auditorium. Abigail Baggott, a delightful, charismatic singer, joins the THSO as they perform holiday favorites, including Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride, a jazzy Charleston Christmas, O Holy Night, Little Drummer Boy, a holiday sing-along, and a surprise Hanukkah clarinet feature.
On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 2 p.m., the Terre Haute Symphony Brass Quintet will share Seasonal Sounds at Ivy Tech Terre Haute’s Oakley Auditorium featuring your favorite tunes to kick off the holiday season. This concert is free and open to the public!
On November 2, 2024, at 7:30pm, the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra will share an emotional performance with Heroism & Hope featuring conductor David Bowden. The program includes Shostakovich’s jubilant Festive Overture, Brahm’s beautiful Symphony No. 3, and Shostakovich’s powerful Symphony No. 5.
The Wabash Valley Chapter of the Southern Indiana Area Labor Federation (commonly known as the Wabash Valley Labor Council) has selected the Terre Haute Symphony Association as its 2024 Community Organization of the Year. The award honors the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra (THSO) for a robust Community Engagement focus that has resulted in more than 75 events for Terre Haute and for other regional communities during the THSO’s recent 2023-24 season.
On September 21, 2024, at 7:30pm, the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra presents Playing Favorites featuring the extraordinarily talented Drew Petersen, a highly sought-after soloist who has performed throughout the United States and internationally, who will perform Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concert in G Major. This concert will open the symphony’s 99th season titled Artistry & Excellence: Celebrating the Bowden Era. This will be Artistic Director David Bowden’s final season with the THSO prior to his retirement in June 2025.
The THSO is pleased to share our THSO Presents! chamber concerts for the 2024-2025 season! Join us on October 6, 2024 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods for Comfort & Joy: Beautiful Music in a Glorious Space in memory of Past President and ardent THSO supporter, Bill Fenoglio. On March 16, 2025, the THSO will present Double Concertos: Twice the Fun! featuring our own THSO musicians performing virtuosic double concertos at Hatfield Hall on the campus of Rose-Hulman.
The Terre Haute Symphony and Labor Link bring Bourbon & Blues to Hulman Center on Friday August 30, 6:30pm-9:30pm, featuring St. Louis Blues artist Brian Curran alongside Solly Burton and Brent McPike, bourbon tastings from 15 vendors, a buffet catered by Butta’s Better BBQ, and a cash bar with special event cocktails by The Verve. Guests will also be able to browse a silent auction with bourbon baskets, select a mystery gift at the Bourbon Pull, or purchase your favorite product. All proceeds from the event directly benefit the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra’s mission of providing Great Music! Close to Home in Terre Haute and the Wabash Vally.
The Texas Tenors join the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra at 7:30pm on April 27th at Tilson Auditorium in a unique blend of country, classical, Broadway, and current pop music with breathtaking vocals, humor, and a touch of cowboy charm. Since appearing on America’s Got Talent in 2009, the group has released 5 albums, 2 PBS specials, 4 DVDs, and multiple singles that have earned them 3 Emmy Awards, multiple #1 debut albums on the Billboard Charts, and an induction into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2022.
Artistic Director David Bowden’s final season with The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra will feature favorites drawn from audience and musician requests received during Bowden's 27 years with the organization. And look for a few of the maestro's personal favorites in the 2024-25 celebratory lineup.
On Sunday April 14, 2024, at 2:00pm, the Terre Haute Symphony Leagues will share a unique fundraiser called Artistry in Sound featuring a musical recital performed by the Angelus Duo (harp and flute) centered around Paul Jenkins’ painting Phenomena Near Baber Woods on display at The Swope Art Museum. Attendees will be able to view the painting as they listen to the Angelus Duo’s carefully programmed performance. The peak of the recital will showcase the world-premiere of “…yet so close” written by Terre Haute native and award-winning composer Jack Nesser. Nesser’s original composition is inspired by Jenkins’ painting and shares a musical reflection of the artwork. Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar catered by The Saratoga will be available starting at 2pm. The performance will start at 2:30pm and last until 3:30pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the musicians and composer following the performance until 4pm.
