THSO Presents Two Concerts at Terre Haute Brewing Company and Hatfield Hall
[Terre Haute, IN] – It may have been in the single digits in Terre Haute, but the second half of the THSO’s concert season is just warming up! The THSO is excited to present two concerts in February and March as part of their THSO Presents! series which will feature smaller ensembles of musicians in community venues.
First, on February 9, 2024, the THSO brings Mozart & Mixology to the Terre Haute Brewing Company (THBC) featuring small ensembles of musicians, a dinner buffet catered by Honey’s Bar & Grill, and drinks from THBC. The THSO’s brewery concerts have been wildly popular for the past several years courtesy of the symphony’s mix of traditional classical music with untraditional venues to create a welcoming and inviting setting. Tickets start at $50 and include the concert, full buffet dinner, and table seating. VIP and Gold ticket holders also receive a complimentary glass of beer, wine, or the special event mixed drink. Tables are going fast for this event – only a few seats remain! Mozart & Mixology is proudly sponsored by ISU Credit Union and the Terre Haute Symphony League.
Next, on March 17, 2024, Artistic Director David Bowden conducts String Spring Fling featuring the THSO Strings joined by Principal Harp, Melanie Mashner, for an afternoon of exceptional chamber music at Hatfield Hall. Relax and bask in the beauty of the lush sound of your THSO string section married to the warmth and beauty of harp vibrations. Hatfield Hall’s superb acoustics enhance the experience!
Lasting 75 to 80 minutes and performed without intermission, String Spring Fling features the return of Elina Rubio, the THSO’s Concertmaster from 2021 to 2023. She will solo with the ensemble on Ravel’s lively and virtuosic “Tzigane” (Gypsy Dance). Later in the program, Elina will be joined by our current concertmaster, Erina Buchholz, in a parting gift. They will play together the solo parts of the beautiful second movement of Bach’s ethereal Double Concerto with the strings.
Along the way there will be waltzes, a Strauss polka with all strings playing pizzicato, and a mesmerizing new work by Caroline Shaw, “Entr’acte for Strings.” Arvo Pärt’s stunning “Fratres” is the centerpiece of the program. “I almost ran off the road when I first heard ‘Fratres’ while driving,” says David Bowden. A jig by Grainger, a Hoe-Down by Copland, and a gorgeous harp concert aria featuring Principal Harpist Melanie Mashner will round out this afternoon program.
A special reception for VIP ticket holders hosted by Viribus Wealth Management follows the concert with all musicians mingling with guests who purchase VIP tickets. String Spring Fling is proudly sponsored by Viribus Wealth Management and the Terre Haute Symphony League.
