THSO Launches End of Year Giving Campaign

Year End (4).png

The THSO is extremely proud to be the oldest professional orchestra in the state of Indiana, now performing our 95th season. While many symphonies in the country have cancelled the remainder of their 2020-2021 seasons, we have made it our top priority to remain innovative and continue providing Great Music! Close to Home in large indoor or outdoor socially distanced venues to keep our patrons, musicians, and staff as safe as possible from the spread of COVID-19. We have also leaped into the realm of providing free virtual content and recording our concerts for season ticket holders who are at risk for contracting the virus and cannot attend a socially distanced performance. We have established ourselves as a unique and local cultural treasure that is essential to the quality of life in Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley, particularly during these trying times. This is evident in recent concert surveys from our socially distanced concerts this Fall:

  • “Thank you for being able how to figure out and continue having our excellent THSO concerts in spite of the pandemic.”

  • “In these trying times, it is very nice that one can enjoy cultural events such as the symphony and still feel safe in a controlled environment. Keep up the good work.”

  • “Thanks for doing all that is involved in choreographing these wonderful concerts during this most difficult time.  As always, it was a wonderful afternoon of music!”

  • “Thank you for working so hard to keep the performances happening for us! We truly appreciate it. It’s just not the same as having the concerts at Tilson Auditorium, but we are so happy that they are happening at all!”

  • “Incredible performance! Every concert is simply delightful, and I always look forward to the next one. Thank you for all the hard work you put into these performances; it does not go unnoticed.”

Our perseverance has not come without loss, though. We understand many businesses and families have experienced a loss in income, adversely affecting their ability to support our symphony. In addition, as a COVID-19 policy, we have dramatically reduced the number of in-person attendees by 75% to ensure safe social distancing for our patrons. We have also capped our season ticket sales at 220 when we typically sell over 600, producing a drop in subscription revenue of 65%. As we forge ahead with continuing to uphold our mission, we are incurring added expenses to be able to provide our patrons with professional quality recordings and free digital content.

As you consider your giving plans for year-end, we hope that you will continue to support the THSO with a gift this holiday season. With just $100, you will help us weather the pandemic and continue providing free, professional virtual content for you and our patrons. We understand the great desire for hope and comfort that our community craves as the pandemic rages on. Music touches the soul in a way words cannot and is a great uniter, something members of our community can have in common during this unprecedented time. We can all agree that the year 2020 has not been kind, but the power of music can provide relief from the turmoil and restore optimism in Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley.
