Award-Winning Pianist Drew Petersen to join Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra for Brahms and Rachmaninoff on April 30

[Terre Haute, IN] – On April 30, 2022, at 7:30pm, award-winning, charismatic, and immensely talented Drew Petersen will take the stage at Tilson Auditorium for the THSO’s concert, Brahms and Rachmaninoff. Terre Haute favorite, Di Wu, will unfortunately not be able to perform for this concert as originally announced. The THSO has confirmed Drew Petersen, a highly sought-after soloist who has performed throughout the United States and internationally, as guest artist to perform Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concert.

Mr. Petersen was presented at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall at age five and by age 10 he was presented in a solo recital at Steinway Hall in Manhattan for the company’s 150th Anniversary. The New York Times has written about the early performances of the gifted, “freckle-faced 10-year-old who still impresses adults with his intelligence, maturity and depth” and New York Magazine prominently featured Petersen in an article about child prodigies. Petersen’s extraordinary gifts were also chronicled in the documentary Just Normal and in Andrew Solomon’s book, Far From the Tree, which featured case studies of exceptional children.

Petersen graduated cum laude from Harvard at age 19 with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in social science and did his graduate music studies at the Juilliard School, where he recently completed his Artist Diploma as a recipient of the prestigious Kovner Fellowship.

More recently, he’s been praised for his commanding and poetic performances of repertoire ranging from Bach to Zaimont and is the recipient of the 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant, 2017 American Pianists Award, and the Christel DeHaan Fellow of the American Pianists Association, as well as a residency at the University of Indianapolis.

Mr. Petersen will perform Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto, considered by many to be the world’s favorite piano concerto. Brahms and Rachmaninoff will open with Dan Powers’ colorful tribute to the THSO and conclude with Brahms’ astonishingly powerful first symphony.

“Drew is a masterful pianist. We are eager to present him to Terre Haute. Brahms’ First Symphony has been one of my personal favorite pieces from my childhood. It is so beautiful, dramatic, and emotionally powerful,” commented Dr. David Bowden, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Terre Haute Symphony.

This concert is proudly sponsored by William & Nancy Shriner, William Hughes, David & Barbara Hagerman, Dick & Betsy Frank, Carl Bender & Barbara Brugnaux.
