THSO Presents Double Concertos at Hatfield Hall March 16

On March 16, 2025, at 4pm, the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra will host “Double Concertos: Twice the Fun!” conducted by David Bowden as part of their THSO Presents! Chamber Series at Hatfield Hall on the campus of Rose-Hulman. The concert will feature five virtuosic soloists from the THSO performing stunning double concertos including J.S. Bach’s beautiful Concerto for Oboe and Violin, the brilliant Concerto for Flute and Harp by W.A. Mozart, and Paul Whear’s moving Elegy for MLK, Jr., for Oboe and English Horn. Samuel Barber’s familiar Adagio for Strings rounds out this 75-minute program. Patrons who purchase a VIP ticket will be invited to an exclusive reception following the performance hosted by Viribus Wealth Management & Partners with complimentary appetizers and an open bar to meet the concerto soloists.

Erina Buchholz, Concertmaster

Erina Buchholz – Concertmaster 

Born and raised in Louisiana, violinist Erina Buchholz is currently pursuing a Performer’s Diploma at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with Joel Smirnoff, following six years as a student of the late Kevork Mardirossian. She earned her Bachelor of Music in violin performance from IU in 2022 as a Herman B. Wells Scholar. Erina holds prizes from numerous competitions throughout the United States. She has participated in the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Madeline Island Chamber Music, Domaine Forget, Orford Music, International Violin Akademie Saar, and the Ferme de Villefavard Summer Music Academy. This past summer Erina held leadership positions as a fellow in the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra in Germany. 


Rebecca McGuire, Principal Oboe

Rebecca McGuire – Principal Oboe 

Known for her beautifully authentic and expressive musicality, Rebecca has performed  

as an orchestral and chamber musician for audiences around the world. After receiving a master’s degree in Oboe Performance from the University of Texas at Austin, Rebecca attended Indiana University Jacobs School of Music as a doctoral student, where she studied with oboist Roger Roe (Indianapolis Symphony Principal), as well as former Metropolitan Opera oboist and celebrated pedagogue Linda Strommen. Rebecca was a featured soloist with the THSO in November 2023, performing Eric Ewazen’s Down a River of Time for oboe and string orchestra. She made her debut as an international soloist in Cologne, Germany, performing Telemann’s Oboe Concerto in F minor and the Samuel Barber Canzonetta for Oboe and Strings with the Freies Kammerorchester Köln, Ensemble 07 under the direction of award-winning violinist and Baroque specialist, Stephan Schardt. Ms. McGuire also serves on the faculty of the Indiana State University School of Music. 


Jennifer Kirby, English Horn

Jennifer Kirby – English Horn 

Jennifer Kirby is a true Midwesterner, growing up in a small town in northwestern  Missouri where she stayed to complete her Bachelor of Arts in Music, summa cum laude. She is a freelance musician based in Bloomington, Indiana having attended  Indiana University under the tutelage of Linda Strommen and Roger Roe, culminating in a Doctor of Music in Oboe Performance with a minor in Early Music. She has been English hornist of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra since 2012 and holds positions as second oboe and/or English horn with the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, and Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. She also performs with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Louisville Orchestra, whom she toured with in 2023. 


Angela Reynolds, Principal Flute

Angela Reynolds – Principal Flute 

Praised for her “beautiful flute voice” and “personal playing,” Dr. Angela Reynolds has served as Principal Flute with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra since  2021. In her role as Flute Professor at Indiana State University, she enjoys mentoring students to thrive as performers, teachers, and people who serve their community through music. She also holds the positions of Co-Principal Flute with the Gateway Chamber Orchestra (TN), Second Flute with the Paducah (KY) Symphony Orchestra, and Principal Flute of the Classical Music Festival Orchestra in Eisenstadt, Austria. Angela has been Grand Prize winner of the London Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition, a finalist in the Instrumental Soloist Collegiate Division of The American Prize, and a prize winner in the Mid-South Flute Society’s Young Artist Competition.  


Melanie Mashner, Principal Harp

Melanie Mashner – Principal Harp 

Melanie is the Principal Harpist of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra as well as the Carmel (IN) Symphony Orchestra. She also maintains a private harp, cello, and piano studio in Indianapolis, IN. Melanie grew up in Rochester, New York, and received her Master's, Bachelor's, and Performer’s Certificate from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She lived in Vienna, Austria, for six months where she worked with Vienna Philharmonic harpist Anneleen Lenaerts as the Global Leader Award recipient from the National Society of Leadership and Success. Melanie has won numerous awards for the harp, including the prestigious IU Harp Department Concerto Competition. She was also selected as a featured performer in the Orchestral Audition Showcase of the 2022 World Harp Congress in Cardiff, Wales.
