Full of passion, lyricism, and technical bravura, this concerto became Tchaikovsky’s first work to achieve widespread acclaim this side of the Atlantic. This inspirational program also features Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony, a masterwork recognized for its gorgeous melodies and triumphant conclusion. You may hear the pop of a cork as the concert opens!
This crossover eclectic show with vocalist Dan Domenech includes jazz selections by Duke Ellington and songs from the Wizard of Oz. The concert will then move on to a variety of pop hits. The artists/composers include Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Freddie Mercury, Journey, Michael Jackson, and Pharrell Williams. The THSO will welcome our Artistic Director-Designate, Dr. Roger Kalia, to the podium for Decades of Pop.
The THSO is thrilled to share our annual music education program with over 3,000 Wabash Valley elementary students on March 25, 2025 at Tilson Auditorium on the campus of Indiana State University! Register by clicking the link below. This concert is not open to the public.
Our fabulous musicians are featured in stunning double concertos including Bach’s beautiful Concerto for Oboe and Violin, the brilliant Concerto for Flute and Harp by Mozart, and Paul Whear’s moving Elegy for MLK, Jr., for Oboe and English Horn. Barber’s familiar Adagio for Strings rounds out this 75-minute program.

Brahms’ glorious Third Symphony is a hidden gem, an odd mix of heroism, formal rigor, and emotional depth that sets it apart. Writing in the picturesque town of Wiesbaden on the Rhine River, Brahms incorporated his personal motto, “Frei aber froh” (Free but happy) throughout the piece.
Written as Stalin’s Great Terror campaign made music a matter of life and death for Soviet composers, Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony is a searing search for hope in a time of darkness and oppression.

Our newest venue for a THSO Presents! Chamber Concert is the gorgeous Church of the Immaculate Conception at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. This cathedral-like structure is an astonishingly beautiful space with superb acoustics. The 75-minute program will feature soprano Caroline Goodwin, harpist Melanie Mashner, and concertmaster, Erina Buchholz. Selections include Shenandoah, Schubert’s Ave Maria, The Last Rose of Summer, Mozart’s Alleluia, Vaughan Williams’ Five Variants on ‘Dives and Lazarus,’ and more lovely pieces whose sound will bloom in the richness of the acoustic space.
We open the season in spectacular fashion! Featuring many favorites….it was hard to choose just a few! Audience favorite, pianist Drew Petersen, returns to perform Ravel’s delightful, entertaining piano concerto.

The Texas Tenors join the THSO in a unique blend of country, classical, Broadway, and current pop music with breathtaking vocals, humor, and a touch of cowboy charm. Since appearing on America’s Got Talent in 2009, the group has released 5 albums, 2 PBS specials, 4 DVDs, and multiple singles that have earned them 3 Emmy Awards, multiple #1 debut albums on the Billboard Charts, and an induction into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2022. A new fundraiser hosted by the Terre Haute Symphony League! Artistry in Sound will feature a musical recital performed by the Angelus Duo centered around Paul Jenkins’ painting Phenomena Near Baber Woods on display at the Swope Art Museum. The peak of the recital will showcase the world-premiere of “…yet so close” written by Terre Haute native and award-winning composer Jack Nesser. Patrons will also enjoy a gorgeous display of hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar catered by The Saratoga.
Celebrating Terre Haute’s total solar eclipse in April 2024, the THSO joins the community’s A Total Eclipse of the Haute collaborative event. The symphony will perform a wide variety of musical styles including selections from The Planets by Gustav Holst, John Williams favorites like E.T. and Star Wars, music from Apollo 13 by James Horner, the X-Files theme, and much more heavenly music. Integrated video projections will take us out of this world!
String Spring Fling features members of the THSO Strings and Principal Harp, Melanie Mashner, under the direction of Artistic Director, Dr. David Bowden, for an afternoon of exceptional chamber music! Relax and bask in the beauty of the lush sound of your THSO string section married to the warmth and beauty of harp vibrations. Hatfield Hall’s superb acoustics enhance the experience. The THSO welcomes back former Concertmaster, Elina Rubio, as a guest artist for this performance. Ms. Rubio will join THSO Concertmaster, Erina Buchholz, for a special duo performance!
The THSO returns to Terre Haute Brewing Company for another fun-filled evening of chamber music and brews! Mozart & Mixology will feature chamber ensembles of THSO musicians performing works by Mozart, influenced by Mozart, or written by contemporaries of Mozart. All tickets include buffet provided by Honey’s Bar and Grill. VIP and Gold ticket holders also receive a complimentary glass of beer or wine from Terre Haute Brewing Company.

The THSO welcomes Brazilian phenom, Choro Das 3, to Hatfield Hall on the campus of Rose-Hulman this November! Featuring a talented trio of sisters, audiences will enjoy their lively and soulful performance. Choro Das 3 is also excited to welcome Terre Haute musicians, Solly Burton and Brent McPike.
When was the last time you heard the entire 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky? We all love the familiar ending complete with cannon shots, but this is your chance to come hear the complete work LIVE! The THSO will also feature Principal Oboist Rebecca McGuire performing Eric Ewazen’s stunningly beautiful concerto titled Down a River of Time. McGuire’s performance will be dedicated to Dr. Stephen Gage, a THSO Board Member and ISU School of Music professor who passed away in February 2023. In addition, the THSO will play two of Richard Strauss’ famous tone poems, Don Juan and Death & Transfiguration.
Exciting young charismatic pianist, Drew Petersen, returns to perform Edvard Grieg’s gorgeous piano concerto. Petersen performed with the THSO on short notice in May 2021 and wowed audiences with his impeccable charm and phenomenal musicality. The evening opens with Florence Price’s bluesy, toe-tapping Juba Dance and concludes with the beautiful and lush melodies of Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2.
When Elina Rubio debuted as our THSO Concertmaster playing the solos in Scheherazade in 2021, the audience was abuzz with excitement. In our final concert, Elina will be featured in Brahms Violin Concerto. The Coleridge-Taylor piece is light and effervescent, and Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony is simply thrilling!!

Her extraordinary Piano Concerto, filled with American dance rhythms, will be played by the THSO’s own Principal Pianist, Tim Stephenson.
Triple threat singer/pianist/songwriter, Tony DeSare takes you on a journey that celebrates timeless piano legends who have become the cornerstone of pop music culminating with Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue. The program highlights perennial favorites of Elton John, Ray Charles, and the Bee Gees. Plus, the enduring songs of Billy Joel top off a show of piano music like none other.

On April 30, 2022, award-winning, charismatic and immensely talented Drew Petersen takes the stage to perform Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto, considered by many to be the world’s favorite piano concerto. The concert opens with a favorite work composed by Dan Powers, the THSO’s composer-in-residence, and concludes with Brahms’ astonishingly powerful first symphony.
Come be enchanted by Disney in Concert Magical Music from the Movies with the THSO, conductor Dr. David Bowden, projected video clips from iconic Disney films, and four leading vocalists. Every new generation has a favorite Disney musical, whether it’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, or Frozen. And then there are the classics, from a Mary Poppins medley to the “Yo ho” of Pirates of the Caribbean.
Adventures in Music is a special educational concert opportunity for elementary students to explore the orchestra, both in the classroom and in the concert hall. This program includes two concerts performed at Tilson Auditorium annually for thousands of 4th graders, private school students, and homeschool students in the Wabash Valley followed by Google Meet engagement sessions allowing students to meet directly with our professional musicians.
Classic Innovations features members of the THSO for an afternoon of exceptional and innovating chamber music! Enjoy several of the most passionate, riveting, and moving musical works ever written for small ensembles. Audiences will experience firsthand the collaborative spontaneity that makes chamber ensembles thrilling to watch. Program includes: Louise Farrenc's Trio, Op. 44 for clarinet, cello, and piano; George Crumb's An Idyll for the Misbegotten for flute and percussion; Ewald's Brass Quintet No. 1; and Barrett's Music for a Happy Occasion for brass quintet.

This event will feature members of the THSO for an intimate performance of some of the world's greatest chamber music. Enjoy several of the most passionate, riveting, and moving musical works ever written. Program will include Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 18, No. 1, Sextet Op. 17 arranged for woodwind quintet, Trio Op. 87 for two oboes and English Horn, and more!
Baritone Rick Vale joins the THSO for Candlelit Holidays, singing favorites including The First Noel, O Holy Night, and Angels We Have Heard on High. Rick will be joined on stage by Caroline Goodwin, who will sing several duets with Vale and will also be featured in Adele’s Laughing Song from Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, a New Year’s celebration musical theater work. The concert also features an exciting new Hanukah piece by Peter Jaffe and our trumpet section in Bugler’s Holiday.
